PROTEON TOKEN RING ISA ADAPTER SETS NEW STANDARDS
 FOR PERFORMANCE, EASE OF USE
WESTBOROUGH, Mass., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) today introduced the ProNET 4/16 p1392, an ISA token ring adapter card that establishes new industry benchmarks for performance, ease-of-use and investment protection. The ProNET 4/16 p1392 incorporates the industry's first application of Flash Memory to reduce maintenance costs, and leverages Proteon's Rapidrivers to deliver 200 percent faster performance than IBM's competitive adapter.
The ProNET 4/16 p1392 features a new bus master DMA interface that works with RapiDriver software to achieve full wire-speed performance. It is the first ISA adapter to combine the excellent performance enabled by bus, a master design with support for windows and extended memory managers.
"By combining ease-of-use features with highly-sophisticated performance capabilities, Proteon is delivering a next generation product with power to drive increasingly demanding networked applications," said Nate Kalowski, Proteon vice president of marketing.
 Industry's Best Installability and Maintainability
The p1392 provides significant ease-of-installation/maintenance advantages. The adapter is the first in the industry to employ Flash Memory to reduce cost of ownership by a factor of 10 in diskless workstation applications. Flash Memory enables easy software upgrades, eliminating the costly hardware upgrades required by competing products using conventional ROMS. In addition, all configuration options are software programmable, making it the industry's most easily-installable adapter.
 Advanced Software Architecture Increases Efficiency
The p1392 supports Proteon's Advanced Software Architecture(tm) (ASA) for maximum workstation efficiency. Introduced in October 1991, ASA is Proteon's strategy for providing software-value added features to ProNET 4/16 token ring adapters. ASA leverages the onboard intelligence of the adapter to increase workstation efficiency and ease RAM-cram. ASA offloads communications applications -- protocols/drivers, network management and client/server applications - - from the workstation to the adapter. Offloading these applications to the adapter increases PC performance and eases RAM-cram by freeing from 28 to 63 percent of PC memory, depending on the application.
Available now, the p1392 is priced at $795 (US List) and includes a lifetime warranty.
