PROTEON OPENS NEW OFFICE IN HONG KONG

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON), continuing to execute a strategic global plan that taps the growing economies of Asia, today announced it has opened a sales, marketing and systems support office in Hong Kong. The new office will be responsible for customer support and sales development in Hong Kong, the North East Asia territory of South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, People's Republic of China, and the Phillippines.
The office expansion parallels Proteon's growth in the region. During the first two quarters of 1993, the company more than doubled its sales in North
East Asia. Contributing to the growth are users with

Fiber optic Data Distribution Interface (FDDI) installations. Major new FDDI customers include Hong Kong University and Chinese University in Hong Kong: High Speed Computing Center and National Chiao Tong University in Taiwan. Other prominent users in the region are Korea Telecom and ETRI, South Korea; and Asian Institute of Management, Phillippines.
Michael Ang, Proteon managing director, Asia region, said, "This is a strategic expansion that brings us closer to the markets we're already serving. With Proteon's focus on the support of large customers in the region, this office will deliver the right support and training services needed in the North East Asia markets."
The Hong Kong office reports to -- and is supported by -- the Asia regional headquarters operation in Singapore. Proteon's other international offices include London, Sydney, Frankfurt, Paris and Tokyo. The new Hong Kong office is located at 7/F Wang Kee Building, 34- 37 Connaught Rd. Central. Telephone 852-846-3140. Fax 852-810-0478.
