PROTEON CHOOSES NETWORK MANAGERS AS PARTNER IN OPEN NETWORK MANAGEMENT
STRATEGY; PROTEON TO RESELL NETWORK MANAGERS' NMC 3000 SYSTEM
SURREY, England, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Managers, Ltd., a leading supplier of multi-vendor network management systems in Europe, today announced that Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) will resell the NMC 3000 network management system as its open management platform for multi-vendor networks. The relationship between the companies involves joint development work that has resulted in the management of Proteon's internetworking and token ring products from a single NMC 3000 station. Proteon will resell the NMC 3000 under the name of OneVIEW.
"Proteon is committed to standards-based, open, multi-vendor network management solutions," said Nathan Kalowski, vice president of marketing at Proteon, Inc. "The NMC 3000 forms an integral part of our worldwide strategy as it allows unified management of Proteon's entire infrastructure product line from a single management station with built-in extensibility for management of third-party devices."
Running on a Sun SPARCstation and using the OSF/Motif graphical user interface, the NMC 3000 management platform provides integrated management of Proteon's entire token ring infrastructure along with all SNMP-based devices in the network. The NMC 3000 supports current management standards, such as SNMP, and will support emerging standards, such as CMIP. In addition, the NMC 3000 provides integration of other management protocols, such as MAP/TOP, and other proprietary protocols used by many WAN equipment suppliers.
"In our experience, a complete enterprise network typically involves equipment from different vendors," said Kumar Shah, senior product manager for network management at Proteon, Inc. "The NMC 3000 supports management of multi-vendor networks as it incorporates a highly modular framework -- including 'plug together' software building blocks. This modular approach allows Proteon's resellers to integrate management of any device into the system."
The Network Managers' NMC 3000 management platform goes beyond the capabilities of most other management systems in its ability to control and integrate mixed vendor systems. "Network Manager's NMC 3000 is a robust, comprehensive management platform that has allowed Proteon to deliver our OneVIEW Family of products very quickly," added Shah. Proteon introduced the OneVIEW Family in December 1991.
?are delighted that Proteon has decided to join forces with us as a network management partner," said Paul Whitehouse, president of Network Managers Ltd. "Having already secured such a dominant position in the European market, the endorsement of such as respected U.S. company has enabled us to expand our reach worldwide."
In addition to supplying an end-user system, Network Managers also provides OEMs and systems integrators with the NMC 3000 Developer's Toolkit. This allows third-party developers, including Proteon's resellers, to integrate management of any product based on any standard or proprietary management protocol.
Headquartered in Westborough, Mass., Proteon, Inc. designs, manufactures, markets and services token ring networking and internetworking solutions. These physical networking systems allow an enterprise to simplify the integration of IBM and non-IBM systems into a single, enterprise-wide network. The company's products -- token ring adapters and software drivers, intelligent network concentrators, multi- protocol bridging routers and network management software -- together create an integrated, highly reliable token ring network infrastructure.
Network Managers (UK) Ltd. is a European company established to develop multi-protocol, multi-vendor network management architectures and systems, and to provide network management consulting services. Launched in March 1991, the NMC 3000 Network Manager provides the first affordable system capable of integrating the management of mixed vendor networks using any combination of management protocols.
