PROTEON BUILDS ON SUPPORT FOR DELIVERING OPEN SNMP-BASED
 MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS
WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) today reinforced its commitment to delivering open, standards-based management solutions through its support of IBM's NS Vendor Enablement Program. Through this program, Proteon is submitting its SNMP/TR Agent, SNMP/Router Agent and SNMP/NIC Agent for testing to ensure that IBM's new AIX NetView/6000 can manage Proteon's Series 90 and Series 70 intelligent wiring solutions; CNX 500 and p4100+ bridging routers; and ProNET-4/16 token ring network interface cards. The AIX NetView/6000 is IBM's new management system for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) devices.
"We are excited to participate in IBM's program to advance the deliver ?open network management solutions based on SNMP," said Nathan Kalowski, vice president of marketing at Proteon. "As a leader in developing SNMP, Proteon is committed to offering users the most open environments and the ability to integrate management of multi-vendor devices into their management systems."
SNMP/TR Agent, SNMP/Router Agent and SNMP/NIC Agent comprise Proteon's SNMP Foundation strategy, which provides SNMP-based management for each element of Proteon's token-ring infrastructure. Introduced last month, the SNMP/TR Agent is hardware- and vendor-independent PC-based software designed to facilitate integration of token ring management with any SNMP management system. With Proteon's SNMP management agents, users can monitor Proteon's ProNET-4/16 LANs and multi-protocol bridging routers as well as other 802.5 compliant token ring networks using SNMP.
With IBM and Proteon providing compatibility and interoperability testing of the AIX NetView/6000 and Proteon MIBs (management information base), users can be assured of integrated management of Proteon's token ring infrastructure elements under IBM's AIX NetView/6000. Upon successful interoperability testing, IBM will also include Proteon's SNMP MIB with AIX NetView/6000, providing users an open SNMP-based, multi-vendor management solution from a single source.
Headquartered in Westborough, Mass., Proteon, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets token ring networking and internetworking solutions. These physical networking systems allow an enterprise to simplify the integration of IBM with non-IBM systems into a single enterprise-wide network. The company's products -- token ring adapters and software drivers, intelligent network concentrators, multi-protocol bridging routers and network management software -- together create an integrated, highly reliable token ring network infrastructure.
