PROTEON ANNOUNCES OEM AGREEMENT WITH NORTHGATE COMPUTER CORP.; PROTEON'S AWARD-WINNING NETWORK ADAPTER CARDS TO BE INTEGRATED INTO NORTHGATE PCS

 WESTBOROUGH, Mass., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON), a leading provider of local area networking and internetworking solutions, today announced an OEM agreement with Northgate Computer Corp., a leading manufacturer of personal computer products.
 Headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minn., Northgate Computer Corp. markets a full line of high-performance hardware including its critically-acclaimed ZXPortable notebooks and docking stations, powerful disk arrays, new line of VESA desktop systems and plug-and-play OmniLAN systems.
 Under the terms of the agreement, Northgate will integrate Proteon's award-winning Token Ring adapter cards into its desktop systems, servers and docking stations. Northgate will also OEM Proteon's Series 70 intelligent hub. Northgate's customer base includes major corporations across North America and around the world.

 Northgate plans to integrate two products marketed by Proteon's LAN Products Division: the p1392 ISA adapter for PC compatibles and the p1990 for EISA-bus based personal computers and servers. Proteon's family of ProNET-4/16 adapters deliver guaranteed IBM/IEEE 802.5 Token Ring interoperability with leading edge performance and a lifetime warranty.
 Proteon's Series 70 hub is a modular, IBM-compatible multi-station access (MAU) unit that accommodates a variety of media such as UTP, STP and fiber. The Series 70 provides in-band and out-of-band management that allows users to manage, configure and monitor their LANs from any SNMP-based station.
