PROTEON ANNOUNCES FIRST INTEGRATED DRIVERS TO SHIP WITH NEW RELEASE OF NETWARE; COMPANIES JOIN IN EFFORT TO HELP USERS

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON), the second largest supplier of token ring adapter cards, today announced that for the first time Proteon device drivers will be included in Novell's industry leading NetWare operating system.
Novell NetWare 4.0 will feature full RapiDriver device driver support for the Proteon ProNET-4/16 product line directly within the NetWare 4.0 operating system. The drivers, which are also available directly from Proteon, also feature support for Novell's new LANalyzer product.
Developed by Proteon and certified by Novell Labs, the drivers permit customers to migrate rapidly and efficiently to NetWare 4.0, which is being formally announced at the Interop show this week in Washington, D.C. Proteon's drivers and adapters provide wire-speed 16Mbps performance, guaranteed interoperability with popular application software, complete support for the Microsoft Windows environment, and support for recently introduced NetWare for Systems Application Architecture (SAA) v1.3.
"This make Proteon adapters completely plug-and-play in the Novell NetWare environment," said Carl Blume, Proteon senior product marketing manager. "The widespread availability of these drivers culminates a year-long effort and reinforces our commitment to provide Novell users with completely interoperable support for Proteon adapter cards."
"We are pleased that Proteon has included their RapiDriver products with NetWare 4.0," said David Owen, vice president of Novell Labs. "Having industry standard, NetWare certified drivers available during installation will make it much easier for customers to migrate to the NetWare 4.0 operating system."
In addition to customer support from Novell, Proteon will continue to offer its own highly-responsive telephone support. The service delivers support for the more than 500,000 Proteon token ring adapter cards installed worldwide.
The Proteon RapiDrivers included in Novell NetWare 4.0 support Proteon's entire ProNET-4/16 line, including models for the IBM PS/2 Micro Channel Architecture (MCA), IBM PC, PC AT and ISA compatibles, and EISA personal computers. Proteon provides users with high-level support and award-winning performance for any type of personal computer in a network.
In February, Proteon received a Data Communications magazine "Tester's Choice" award for its MCA card, which was the top performer among eight competitors in a demanding applications-level test.
From large corporate headquarters' sites to smaller more remote locations, Proteon delivers scalable, flexible and highly-available enterprise-wide network solutions. At the desktop, its ProNET-4/16 family of token ring adapter cards guarantee interoperability for all LAN environments. Its powerful CNX 600 and CNX 500 RISC-based router, plug-and-play DNX 300 family of entry level and remote site router, Series 90 Token Ring/Ethernet Smart Hub, and ProNET BOSS hub-router help enterprises build reliable, high performance headquarters' networks.
Finally, the entire network can be easily and comprehensively managed from a single workstation via Proteon's SNMP-based OneVIEW management system for managing Proteon and third-party SNMP-based devices.
