PROTEON, ZENITH DATA SYSTEMS SIGN OEM AGREEMENT; NETWORK ADAPTER CARDS TO BE INTEGRATED INTO ZDS'S Z-400+ AND Z-STATION DESKTOP PCS

 WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) a leading provider of local area networking and internetworking solutions, and Zenith Data Systems (ZDS), a major manufacturer of personal computer products, today announced that the companies have signed an OEM agreement for Token Ring products.
 Under terms of the agreement, Zenith Data Systems will integrate Proteon's ProNET-4/16 p1392 Plus Series Token Ring Network Adapter Cards into its Z-400+ and Z-STATION lines of desktop personal computers.
 "This agreement extends Zenith Data Systems' commitment to integrated connectivity in the Token Ring marketplace," said Philippe Ribeyre, Zenith Data Systems vice president of desktop systems. "Zenith Data Systems was the first PC manufacturer to offer truly integrated network solutions -- both hardware and software -- with our Z-STATION line."
 Proteon's ProNET-4/16 Plus Series cards offer a manufacturers lifetime warranty, guaranteed interoperability with leading network operating systems, flash-boot memory and software programmable configuration options for easy upgrades and maintenance. To date, more than a half-million Proteon network adapter cards are installed and operating.
 The agreement with Zenith Data Systems is the fourth such alliance that Proteon has announced in recent weeks. Others included OEM agreements with PC COM, Inc., Elmsford, N.Y., Northgate Computer Corp., Eden Prairie, Minn., and Acer America Corp., San Jose, Calif.
 Elliott Honan, Proteon acting president and chief financial officer, said the ZDS relationship reinforces Proteon's decade of experience and innovation in the Token Ring marketplace. "By selecting Proteon," said Honan, "Zenith Data Systems strengthens its ability to offer its customers leading edge personal computer products that can easily be networked into many different environments. We see significant future benefits for both companies."
