PROPER USE, CARE OF ANIMALS FOCUS OF CONFERENCE
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- State Agriculture Secretary

Boyd E. Wolff today urged farmers and livestock handlers to attend a conference on the responsible treatment of animals in the agricultural, health care, and wildlife management industries.
The symposium, entitled "The ABCs of Responsible Animal Use," will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Building, 2301 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg.
The conference is sponsored by Pennsylvanians for the Responsible Use of Animals.
"Members of the group encourage the humane treatment of animals used for food, clothing, biomedicine and in wildlife management," said Ken Brandt, conference coordinator. "The goal of this conference is to bring together individuals who work with animals every day to broaden understanding of responsible animal use, evaluate current animal care standards and identify areas where changes are necessary."
The morning session will consist of panel discussions with conference leaders and panelists exchanging views on how they handle animals in agriculture, biomedicine and conservation. In afternoon workshops, conference participants will be able to express their views as the group addresses concerns facing all animal users in Pennsylvania.
Presenters from education, business, and animal welfare organizations have been assembled for the conference. In addition, Pennsylvania Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Walter Peechatka will address the group on the department's enforcement of state regulations on the proper care and handling of animals.
The cost of the conference is $25, which includes lunch. For more information, contact Ken Brandt at 717-367-5223.
