PROGRESS SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR MIPS ABI

Extends Product Offering To All ABI Compliant Platforms
BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Progress Software

Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced plans to port the PROGRESS(R) Application Development Environment to the MIPS Application Binary Interface (ABI). In addition to all current PROGRESS-supported platforms, applications developed with the PROGRESS ADE will be deployable across MIPS ABI-compliant platforms without any change to the application code. The company plans to ship a complete application development copy of PROGRESS for the MIPS ABI in the third quarter of calendar year 1993.
The PROGRESS ADE consists of the PROGRESS fourth-generation language (4GL), PROGRESS relational database management system (RDBMS), and associated developer productivity and end-user query and reporting tools. Together they form a high-productivity environment for developing and running single- or multi-user computer applications in host-based or client/server environments.
With the PROGRESS ADE, users of the MIPS ABI-based systems can create transaction-oriented applications that are critical to business success, such as manufacturing resource planning (MRP), just-in-time (JIT) inventory, accounting and point of sale systems. Also, users of MIPS ABI-based systems will have access to thousands of commercially available applications developed by software partners (VARs) using PROGRESS.
PROGRESS will extend its product offering to all MIPS RISC-based computer platforms supported by the MIPS ABI group of companies, including: AT&T Federal Systems Computer Division, Concurrent Computer Corporation, Control Data Systems, Inc., NEC Corporation, Olivetti, Pellucid Inc., Pyramid Technology Corporation, Seimens Nixdorf, Silicon Graphics Inc., SONY Microsystems Company, and Tandem Computers.
