PROGRESS REPORT ON MINE RESCUE EFFORTS AT THE MACASSA MINE

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ontario, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Rescue efforts are continuing from the west end of the 6600 level to locate two trapped miners at the Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake.
After removing about 550 tons of broken rock and material yesterday, the 6723 ore pass blocked last night. The ore pass is blocked by a slusher which had been located on one of the levels above affected by the rockburst. The avalance gun on loan to the Macassa Mine is being used to unblock the ore pass. Four attempts through the night were unsuccessful in unblocking the ore pass and work continues to try and clear the ore pass.
