PROGRESS OPEN ACCESS PROGRAM BROADENS USERS' CHOICE OF THIRD-PARTY TOOLS
BEDFORD, Mass., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced the Progress Open Access Program. The program will boost the number of third-party software tools for the PROGRESS(R) environment by providing technical and marketing assistance to software vendors who provide links to PROGRESS. The company also announced 10 initial Progress Open Access members whose products complement the PROGRESS environment.
"Customers are asking us to help broaden their choice of tools that work with PROGRESS," said John Wark, Progress Software vice president of marketing. "Many users are looking for tools which will help maximize their productivity across PROGRESS and non-PROGRESS environments. Through the Progress Open Access Program, we will recruit and support third-party vendors so that PROGRESS developers and end users can easily assemble a suite of software tools that best meets their specific requirements."
The initial Progress Open Access members are Acucobol, Inc.; Chen & Associates, Inc.; Contexture Systems; Hewlett-Packard Company; INTERSOLV, Inc.; IQ Software Corporation; JYACC, Inc.; Park Software, Inc.; Popkin Software & Systems, Inc.; and Soft-tek International, Inc. These vendors' products include design and analysis tools, graphics packages, interface builders, and end-user query and reporting tools. Progress Software expects to have 30 to 50 Open Access members by year end.
Program Open Access members receive software and technical assistance in building their links to PROGRESS. They are also eligible for cooperative marketing programs in advertising, public relations, marketing communications and direct marketing.
PROGRESS is an integrated application development system, which consists of the PROGRESS Fourth Generation Language (4GL), the PROGRESS Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), and associated tools for application development and end-user query and reporting. These products are designed to simplify and accelerate the creation, deployment and maintenance of software applications, which are portable and interoperable across a wide range of computers, operating systems, networking protocols, databases and graphical user interfaces. Progress Software has shipped more than 100,000 licenses of the PROGRESS 4GL and RDBMS.
Progress Software sells products worldwide to organizations which develop and deploy mission-critical applications. Over half of the company's worldwide revenues are derived from serving more than 2,000 software partners (VARs) who develop and market PROGRESS-based applications. The balance of the company's sales are to businesses and governments whose IS organizations license PROGRESS to develop and deploy applications for their end users.
