PRODUCTION STARTS AT POINT McINTYRE FIELD

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The delayed startup of the Point McIntyre oil field on Alaska's North Slope took place today, following an agreement reached between the state of Alaska and the field's owners, ARCO Alaska Inc., Exxon Co. USA and BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.
The agreement provides for expansion of the Prudhoe Bay unit to include state leases overlying the Point McIntyre reservoir. The field's production facilities had been ready to go into operation since early July, but startup was delayed pending action on the field owners' request to include the Pt. McIntyre participating area in the unit.
According to Jim Weeks, ARCO Alaska's senior vice president for Prudhoe Bay/Lisburne, production from the field is expected to reach 80,000 barrels per day within a few days, and 100,000 barrels per day next year. Point McIntyre will be produced through the Lisburne field's production facility.
"We are pleased to have reached an agreement with all parties and to finally have the field on line," Weeks said.
Point McIntyre, which lies just north of the Prudhoe Bay reservoir, was discovered in 1988. At the time of its discovery, it was the largest field to be found in the United States in a decade. It contains an estimated 340 million barrels of recoverable oil.
Development drilling is expected to continue through 1996.
