PROCTOR-SILEX WANTS TO SEND YOU ON A 'TOASTY' VACATION TO ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS!
RICHMOND, Va., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of the 100 millionth slice of toast tested, Proctor-Silex, the world's largest toaster manufacturer, invites you to toast your way to a toasty, tropical vacation. Co-sponsored by Country Accents magazine, the Christmas "Toast Art" contest is your chance to create a "pop-up" Christmas decoration and win a week's vacation for two at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Resort in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, round-trip airfare compliments of American Airlines, a $500 cash expense allowance from Proctor-Silex, plus a $200 appliance prize package. Runners-up will receive a Proctor-Silex Extra Wide Slot Toaster. Deck The Halls With Bagels? To create your "Toast Art" decoration, Proctor-Silex suggests using an Extra Wide Slot Toaster, a variety of breads (bagels, English muffins, waffles are great too!) and a lot of imagination. Paints, food-coloring, beads, ribbons and glitter can help dress up the piece. For a final touch, preserve it with clear acrylic spray, then send Proctor-Silex a picture of the final creation. Enter Now! Deadline for entries is June 1, 1993. All qualified entries must include at least one color photograph of the art piece, with the entrant's name, address and phone number typed or printed on the back, along with a single 8-1/2-inch x 11-inch sheet of paper listing the same information. A panel selected by Proctor-Silex will judge entries on (1) overall appearance, (2) originality and (3) variety and thicknesses of breads toasted. Finalists will be required to send entries to Proctor-Silex for judging within 10 days of notification. The winner will be notified in writing no later than Sept. 1, 1993, and selected entries will appear in the holiday issue of Country Accents. A copy of the official rules can be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Proctor-Silex or by reading the May issue of Country Accents. Send contest entries to: Toast Art Christmas Contest Proctor-Silex 442 Waterfront Drive Glen Allen, Va. 23060 100 Million Slices and Still Toasting ... Since 1957, Proctor-Silex has "test toasted" over 1,000 loaves of bread daily to ensure accurate toast color in every toaster made -- enough toast to create a 7,102-mile trail (from New York City to San Francisco and back!) or a pile that would reach the height of a 3,788 stack of World Trade Towers. Rather than attempt a 100-million-toast pile-up, the test leftovers have been "recycled" as feed for the Mount Airy, N.C., livestock.
