PROCOM ADDS MAC OS SUPPORT TO CD TOWER E4 CD/DVD-ROM SERVER.

Procom Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:PRCM), Santa Ana, Calif., has announced that its innovative E4 server now supports Macintosh(a) OS-based systems, providing a single CD-ROM server solution for the broadest range of heterogeneous workstations.

"The resurgence of the Macintosh market in the past 18 months has highlighted the need for Mac OS client support, particularly for installations using the E4 Tower for graphic arts and digital production applications," said Page Tagizad, Procom director of product management.

"Procom has delivered an innovative CD networking solution that handles the needs of UNIX, NetWare, Windows and Macintosh users in a single unit."

Procom's upgraded CD Tower E4 server offers broad Mac OS support, allowing Macintosh users to access the network attached CD/DVD-ROM server using only their native Mac OS tools.

By selecting the CD Tower E4 in the Chooser, Mac clients can gain fast and easy access to all CD data stored by the server. Administrators can also work within the Macintosh environment, using the Chooser to select in which zone the CD Tower shows up.

All Apple HFS format CDs are supported, as well as ISO9660 discs, hybrid HFS/9660 and UFS DVD-ROMs. Hybrid discs can be selectively mounted as ISO9660 volumes, allowing Windows and Mac users to access the same disc and utilize cross-platforms such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, as well as common file formats, including PDF, EPS and JPEG.

The Macintosh protocols work simultaneously with all other supported protocols, such as NetWare, Windows, UNIX and Web environments.

With this latest release, Macintosh users can now access CD data at hard disk speeds with the caching technology of the CD Tower. Up to 36GB of CD-ROM or DVD-ROM data can be cached to the server, including full or partial caching of ROM discs. The CD Tower performs the caching transparently and Mac clients will see no difference in the user interface whether the CD/DVD is cached or not.
