PROCEEDINGS AT THE 1113TH GENERAL MEETING.

The 1113th General Meeting of the Academy was held on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., Dr. Hiroshi SHIONO, President, taking the chair. Ninety-six members were present, and the following communications were made:

After a recess during which the members present met in their respective Sections, the General Meeting was resumed for business transactions.

First, the President announced that Dr. Toshio SAWADA, M.J.A., had passed away on October 18, 2017 and Dr. Junichi MURAKAMI, M.J.A., on October 24, 2017; the members expressed their profound sense of grief in silence.

Second, Dr. Tetsuya SHIOKAWA, M.J.A., paid a tribute of admiration to the late Dr. Hisayasu NAKAGAWA's meritorious service to academic circles.

Third, the Chairpersons of both Sections made reports of the matters dealt with at the respective Sectional Meetings.

Fourth, a report was made by Dr. Shoichi SATO, M.J.A., on the 89th Session of the International Union of Academies which was held from October 22 to 26, 2017 at the Japan Academy.

Then, the President reported that the members of the Publication Committee for the coming term were elected at Sectional Meetings. The members elected are:

Section I: Issei TANAKA, Yasuo TAMAIZUMI, Morio TAKESHITA, Takeshi SASAKI, Hiroshi MIZUTA and Kanji ISHII.

Section II: Heisuke HIRONAKA, Yoshihide KOZAI, Shigefumi MORI, Toshimitsu YAMAZAKI, Masaki KASHIWARA, Kenji FUKAYA, Shigekazu NAGATA, Yoshio FUKAO, Koichi TANAKA, Teruhiko BEPPU, Kenji MORI, Takashi SUGIMURA, Tamio YAMAKAWA, Kumao TOYOSHIMA, Masanori OTSUKA, Takao SEKIYA and Kunihiko SUZUKI.

The Meeting adjourned at 4:52 p.m.
