PRO-DEX REPORTS NET INCOME UP 45 PERCENT; PER SHARE INCOME DOUBLES

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Pro-Dex Inc. (NASDAQ: PDEX), a dental management company specializing in infection control and preventative products for the dental industry, today reported a 45 percent increase in net income for the first quarter ended Sept. 30, 1993, while earnings per share for the same period doubled.
Revenues for the quarter increased to $2,006,817 vs. last year's revenues of $1,582,699 an increase of 27 percent. Pro-Dex reported net income $176,162 or $0.04 per share, vs. $121,296 or $0.02 per share for the same period last year.
The increase in revenues and earnings can be attributed primarily to improved profit margins and efficiencies at the Biotrol subsidiary as it focuses on its more profitable chemical products through aggressive marketing efforts and new product development. Operating efficiencies resulted in an increase in revenues without a corresponding increase in production costs.
"Our strong first quarter performance represents our commitment to profitability as we continue to focus on those products which provide the highest profit margins," said Kent Searl, president of Pro-Dex. "Last year's loss of business related to the failure of Healthco International, a major customer for Biotrol, has now been completely absorbed by dealers with whom the company has better working relationships. We expect to add several new product lines during this fiscal year through our newly acquired Challenge Products subsidiary," said Searl.
