PRINCIPE LEOPOLDO: GREETED MILLENNIUM IN STYLE.

Lugano's famed "Golden Hill" was the ideal setting for a spectacular firework display lighting up the city and lake below and crowning the end of the year celebrations at the Villa Principe Leopoldo and signalled the official arrival of the new millennium.

Under the dynamic and always inventive impulsion of General Manager Maurice Urech, the Principe Leopoldo will this year again be staging a number of unusual events, some connected with its continuing sponsorship of the Lugano Jazz Festival.

Art and gastronomy will make a beguiling combination with a major summer exhibition in the hotel of recent works by the Swiss artist Catherine de Saugy, which opens on May 3rd. Catherine de Saugy is also the producer of a noted wine, Chateau de Malessert, and this grand cru is among an outstanding range from the various wine-producing chateaux of the La Cote region of Lake Geneva featured at a gala gourmet dinner celebrating the opening of the exhibition. Dario Ranza, the Principe's award-winning chef, will prepare a series of dishes to complement the special qualities of the wines presented.
