Release LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Silver Pictures' "Demolition Man," starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Lori Petty, began principal photography on Feb. 10 in Los Angeles. Joel Silver, Michael Levy and Howard Kazanjian are producing "Demolition Man," a futuristic action-adventure about a Los Angeles policeman pursuing a ruthless psychopath through a peaceful but unexpectedly powerful society in the year 2032. Marco Brambilla directs from a screenplay by Daniel Waters and Jonathan Lemkin, based on a story by Peter Lenkov and Waters. James Herbert and Jacqueline George are co- producing the film, which will be released by Warner Bros. Stallone received Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Screenplay for "Rocky," which won the Academy Award in 1976 for Best Picture and established worldwide recognition for Stallone as an actor, writer and director. Stallone's other credits as director include "Rocky II," "Rocky III," "Rocky IV," "Staying Alive" and "Paradise Alley"; and as an actor and writer, "Rocky V." He starred in such films as "F.I.S.T.," "First Blood," "Rambo: First Blood Part II," "Rambo III," "Nighthawks," "Victory," "Tango & Cash," "Lock Up," "Oscar" and the upcoming "Cliffhanger." Snipes established himself as a major box-office draw last year in "Passenger 57" and "White Men Can't Jump," which preceded his performance in the critically acclaimed "The Water Dance." Snipes' other films include Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever" and "Mo' Better Blues," "New Jack City," "Streets of Gold" and "Major League." He will soon be seen in "Rising Sun" opposite Sean Connery. Petty made her entrance onto the big screen in Penny Marshall's hit movie "A League of Their Own." Prior to that, she impressed movie audiences with her co-starring performances opposite Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves in "Point Break," and opposite Robin Williams in "Cadillac Man." She will soon be seen in Warner Bros.' "Free Willy." Brambilla is making his feature directorial debut with "Demolition Man." Born in Milan, Italy, and having acquired a strong background in the visual arts, Brambilla worked for a number of years in Canada designing, directing and shooting commercials for some of the world's largest international companies. Silver has been responsible for a string of major motion picture hits which have grossed a combined total of nearly $2 billion. His films "48 Hours," "Commando," "Predator," "Lethal Weapon," "Lethal Weapon 2" and "Lethal Weapon 3" as well as both "Die Hard" and its sequel and the "The Last Boy Scout" have, in their initial releases, each grossed more than $100 million.
