PRIMESTAR BY TCI AND BOSE CORPORATION ANNOUNCE ALLIANCE; TELEVISION NEVER LOOKED OR SOUNDED BETTER!

DENVER, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- PRIMESTAR By TCI and Bose Corporation today announced a new alliance that will make television viewing better than ever before. PRIMESTAR By TCI, the nation's first direct broadcast satellite (DBS) system, will offer Bose products including the new PRIMESTAR/Bose Home Theater System featuring the Companion(TM) satellite surround system, Video Roommate(R) system, Powered Acoustimass(R)-3 series II speakers, and various speaker accessories to accompany the PRIMESTAR DBS system. The addition of Bose state-of-the-art audio equipment to PRIMESTAR's digital satellite technology will mean home television viewing that never looked or sounded better.

PRIMESTAR provides a comprehensive DBS TV entertainment service to consumers throughout the United States. Starting at about $1 a day, PRIMESTAR provides use of all equipment (mini satellite dish, decoder box and remote control); high quality entertainment programming delivered digitally for laser disc-quality picture and CD-quality sound; and ongoing maintenance and service.

PRIMESTAR By TCI and Bose Corporation will now offer a home theater system which includes the PRIMESTAR system and the Bose Companion satellite surround sound system. The Bose Companion satellite surround system, a complete surround sound solution designed specifically for use with home satellite systems, sets a new quality standard for satellite- delivered audio in the home. Engineered to be used with a satellite receiver, the Companion system delivers high quality, multi-channel audio from a compact and easy-to-use system. Plus, the PRIMESTAR receiver and Companion system can be controlled with a unified PRIMESTAR/Bose remote control. The Companion satellite surround sound system comes complete with:

* Sleek system controller with 4 video inputs for composite or S video and 2 additional audio sources

* Five matched speaker cubes, each with matched amplification

* One Acoustimass bass module, with dedicated amplification

* Infrared remote control and remote sensor

* Built-in Videostage(R) surround sound decoder

The Bose Companion satellite surround sound system will be available to PRIMESTAR By TCI customers for $1,399.

PRIMESTAR By TCI will also distribute other Bose products, including: the Video Roommate system, a desk top speaker pair; Powered Acoustimass-3 series II speakers, 2 cube speakers with a base module, and speaker accessories including floor stands and universal wall mounts. The Video Roommate system will retail at $299, while the Acoustimass speakers are $599.

The PRIMESTAR/Bose Home Theater System will be available in mid April. PRIMESTAR By TCI will distribute the PRIMESTAR/Bose Home Theater system through its Master Agents, Direct Sales Representatives, and Sales and Service Representatives. Bose Corporation will also offer the PRIMESTAR system at its factory stores.

PRIMESTAR is a direct broadcast satellite television service that offers its subscribers a comprehensive package which includes both programming and equipment starting at about $1 a day. PRIMESTAR customers do not have to purchase any equipment; they simply subscribe to the monthly service. PRIMESTAR Partners is a joint venture of Denver-based Tele-Communications, Inc., Comcast Cable, Continental Cablevision, Cox Communications, Newhouse Broadcasting, Time Warner Cable and G.E. American Communications. PRIMESTAR By TCI is the division of TCI which distributes PRIMESTAR equipment and programming for TCI.
