PRIME DATA FIGURES SHOW SCHLUMBERGER ATE LEADING VLSI TEST MARKET

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Market research figures from Prime Data Corp. indicate that Schlumberger Technologies, ATE Division, is the market leader in LSI/VLSI testing. The company's position, according to Ken Neff at Prime Data, results from "very strong sales into major semiconductor companies during 1992." The new figures follow what was also an excellent sales year in '91 for Schlumberger, resulting in a large installed base of systems at 100MHz and above.
According to Andre Camillo, vice president and general manager of Component Test Systems for Schlumberger, "We made a decision five years ago to invest the resources necessary to give customers what they need in LSI/VLSI test systems. We set out to advance the state- of-the-art and to lead this segment of the test arena. Since that time we've introduced testers with software and hardware innovations that make a genuine difference to customers' time-to-market and bottom line. That leadership is reflected in the sales figures."
The preliminary Schlumberger sales figures of $140 million for '92 stated in the Prime Data report exceeded the closest competitor by more than $25 million. Camillo stated that '93 sales of the ITS 9000 test systems "are far exceeding '92."
Schlumberger Technologies, ATE Division, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of automatic test equipment for both semiconductor and board-test markets, including e-beam and FIB diagnostic systems. The company's worldwide network of ATE service and support personnel includes more than 400 people in 100 centers located in 31 countries. Schlumberger Technologies is one of five business groups within Schlumberger Ltd., and specializes in electronic measurement and control. The other groups specialize in oil-field services and computer-aided services. Schlumberger Ltd. is a $6.3 billion company which employs 51,000 people and operates in more than 100 countries.
