NEW ALBANY, Ind., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Eldorado Hotel & Casino of Reno, Nev., owned and operated by the Carano Family, and Primadonna Resorts Inc. (NASDAQ: PRMA) announced today that they will join together to seek a gaming license to develop and operate a riverboat in New Albany on the Ohio River across from Louisville, Ky. Eldorado has recently applied for an Indiana riverboat gaming license in Floyd County where New Albany is located.
Under the letter of intent between Eldorado and Primadonna, Eldorado will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation of the New Albany project.
A referendum to determine whether Floyd County citizens support riverboat gaming in their county will be held on Nov. 2, 1993. If the referendum passes, Floyd County will be competing against seven other Indiana counties who have scheduled referendums, each of which will be seeking one of the five riverboat gaming licenses available on the Ohio River. The Indiana Gaming Commission will determine which counties will be allotted one gaming license on the Ohio River.
Several groups and gaming companies have announced their intentions to seek a riverboat gaming license in New Albany if the Floyd County referendum passes. The Indiana Gaming Commission will also select the riverboat gaming operator from the competing gaming companies, and the chosen operator will be required to seek Army Corps of Engineers approval for the riverboat on the Ohio River, in addition to a number of other approvals and permits.
Donald L. Carano, chief executive officer of the Eldorado, said, "We're indeed fortunate to join forces with Gary Primm and his organization. Gary and I have known each other for years and share similar operating philosophies. With Primadonna's experience in blending family-oriented amusements with casino gaming, we can offer a first class innovative project to our customers."
Glenn T. Carano, the Eldorado project manager in New Albany, remarked, "With Eldorado and Primadonna as a team, we will have an outstanding project that will be extremely competitive. Our goal is to bring much more than a riverboat to Floyd County. We want to bring the finest entertainment center in the Midwest to Floyd County, Indiana."
Gary E. Primm, chairman and chief executive officer of Primadonna Resorts Inc., stated: "I can't think of a better organization to be associated with in initiating our company's plans to diversify into other gaming jurisdictions. I look forward to jointly developing with the Eldorado a first class gaming venue in New Albany."
Primadonna Resorts Inc. owns and operates two highly successful hotel/casinos in Clark County, Nev., which are located in Interstate 15 at the California/Nevada border known as Whiskey Pete's Hotel & Casino and Primadonna Resort & Casino, and is developing a new 600-room hotel/casino with multiple theme amusement rides adjacent to the Primadonna scheduled to be opened in the summer of 1994.
Eldorado Hotel Associated Limited Partnership owns and operates the Eldorado Hotel & Casino in Reno, which is considered one of the premier hotel/casinos in Northern Nevada. Eldorado is developing with Circus Circus Enterprises a new mega-resort known as Project C in Reno.
