PRICE OF A STAMP MAY 'GO TO pounds 16'.

Posties' leader Alan Johnson warned that courier firms would cream off lucrative city routes, leaving rural areas to be charged the full rate.

That could lead to a pounds 16 charge for posting a letter from London to the Scottish islands, Mr Johnson said.

Labour yesterday accused ministers of "playing party politics with the post".
