PRESSTEK'S NEW PEARL TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCED BY HEIDELBERG AT IPEX'93

/ADVANCE/HUDSON, N.H., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Presstek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRST) announced today the first public showing of its new high resolution filmless and toxic free PEARL(TM) Direct Imaging technology. The PEARL premier is on a Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG ("Heidelberg") GTO-DI printing press at the 1993 International Printing Exposition (IPEX'93) in Birmingham, England.
Jim Bast, Presstek's president stated, "The marriage between our high-quality PEARL imaging and the proven precision of the Heidelberg GTO creates a filmless printing solution that is unsurpassed in the graphic communication industry." Heidelberg is the first to license and show Presstek's PEARL technology as a direct-to-press digital imaging device that dramatically reduces production times and overall costs for multi-color printing. Customers have reported cost savings as high as 35 percent over traditional methods from the easy-to-use, toxic free solution which has been desired by printers for a long time. There is also the competitive advantage of a 40 percent reduction in production time with the filmless technology. PEARL is today's answer to the commercial printing industry's requirement for quality, proven performance, variable resolution and open connectivity to the major electronic prepress systems.
IPEX'93, which occurs once every five years, is a nine-day exposition ending Sept. 15, 1993 featuring some 1,500 manufacturers and suppliers in the printing and graphic arts industries from over 30 different countries. It draws an audience of more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world.
Presstek, Inc. has developed and patented a proprietary filmless direct imaging technology for the printing industry. The revolutionary PEARL laser technology is capable of producing printed full-color materials of a quality that industry experts consider comparable to printing industry standards. The PEARL direct imaging technology and system uses proprietary laser diodes and unique optics to etch images directly onto Presstek's printing plates which can be used by presses of any make, size or type for high resolution print quality in shorter time and at lower cost than competitive processes. Presstek is also engaged in the development of additional products and applications that incorporate the use of its proprietary technologies, including stand- alone platemakers used for off-line imaging of printing plates.
Presstek, Inc., 8 Commercial St., Hudson, N.H., 03051 USA is a publicly held corporation whose stock is trade on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol PRST.
