PRESS INVITED TO ATTEND OPENING OF POSTAL SERVICE'S
FIRST REFUELING STATION FOR NATURAL GAS VEHICLES IN THE NORTHEAST
The U.S. Postal Service will officially open its first natural-gas refueling station in the Northeast at its facility in New Dorp, Staten Island, where a fleet of 50 delivery vehicles have been converted to run on natural gas. The conversion of the fleet is a major step for cleaner air in New York City.
Brooklyn Union and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority are funding the project, which is responding to the need for cleaner fuels, such as natural gas, mandated by the federal Clear Air Act.
Brooklyn Union plans to have 15 refueling stations for natural-gas vehicles (NGVs) operating by next year in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens, where 336 businesses and government agencies operate about 88,500 vehicles in fleets affected by the Clean Air Act.
PLACE: Walter Edward Grady Building, 2562 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island.
 TIME: 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17.
