Two qualify for U.S. Senior Open
At Wedgewood Pines CC in Stow, Kirk Hanefeld and Paul Parajeckas qualified for the U.S. Senior Open Championship July 5-8 at Whistling Straits CC in Wisconsin. Hanefeld shot a 5-under 66 to earn medalist honors. Parajeckas shot 70. Rick Karbowski, who also shot 70, is second alternate.
B's Kessel wins Masterton Trophy
Bruins forward Phil Kessel was awarded the 2006-2007 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The award voted by members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association is given to a player who shows perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. It was among awards announced at a ceremony in Toronto. Kessel was a diagnosed with testicular cancer last December, underwent surgery, and returned to the ice several weeks later.
