SAN FRANCISCO and SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Kenneth L. Khachigian, senior adviser to several U.S. presidents and two California governors, has become "Of Counsel" to The PBN Company of California and R&R Advertising of Nevada and Utah.
R&R/PBN is a marketing, communications and political consulting partnership with offices in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Washington, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Reno, Moscow, and now, San Clemente, Calif. Khachigian will oversee R&R/PBN's new Orange County office.
Khachigian, 48, was former chief speech writer to President Reagan and is a practicing attorney in Southern California. He is widely regarded as one of the nation's most respected political strategists and communications consultants.
Khachigian was a senior adviser, media consultant and strategist for the successful Reagan/Bush 1980/1984 and Bush/Quayle 1988 presidential campaigns. He played similar roles in the successful elections of California Govs. George Deukmejian and Pete Wilson as well as California Attorney General Dan Lungren. He also served as statewide campaign manager for Bruce Herschensohn's 1992 bid for the U.S. Senate.
Khachigian's association with The PBN Company and R&R Advertising formalizes long-standing professional and personal ties with principals of both firms, including PBN President Peter B. Necarsulmer and R&R President William Vassiliadis. In stark contrast to Khachigian, Vassiliadis, 36, and Necarsulmer, 37, are lifelong Democrats active in California, Nevada and national politics. Vassiliadis is the senior policy and political adviser to Nevada Gov. Bob Miller and played the same role in Nevada Sen. Richard Bryan's successful 1988 U.S. Senate race. Necarsulmer has served for years on U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein's finance committees.
"The timing is right to add more structure to my increasingly close professional ties with R&R/PBN," Khachigian said. "The `Of Counsel' role means I have available the resources of the leading advertising and public affairs firm in the western United States to complement my independent practice," he said. "I also expect to be of special service to many of the impressive political, corporate and marketing clients of R&R/PBN."
Pepsi Cola International, Bechtel, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Carlson Hospitality Group, Apple Computer, Simpson Timber, Bally's Las Vegas, California Restaurant Association and Rocky Mountain Blue Shield/Blue Cross are some of the clients of The PBN Company and R&R Advertising.
Khachigian also advises numerous Fortune 500 companies as well as officeholders and initiative campaign committees. Currently, Khachigian is heading up the School Choice Initiative (Yes on 174) on California's November 1993 ballot and, with R&R/PBN, is advising a major initiative campaign committee in the state of Florida.
"Ken shares our commitment to the highest standards of excellence in corporate and political communications," said Necarsulmer. "Many of our clients, especially those with Sacramento and Washington, D.C., interests, will certainly benefit from Ken's sage and experienced counsel," he added.
"Ken adds significant value to R&R/PBN's already strong advertising and public affairs capabilities," said Vassiliadis. "He also shares R&R/PBN's historic ties to the West along with our abiding interest in national political and public policy issues."
A native Californian, Khachigian received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He holds a law degree from Columbia University in New York.
Founded in 1983, The PBN Company is ranked the No. 1 regional public affairs firm in the United States by Inside PR, the industry's leading trade journal (July 1993 "Agency Report Card" issue). Other principals in the firm are Executive Vice President Susan A. Thurman, Senior Vice President Sam J. Sacco and Vice President R. Juanita Sullivan.
R&R Advertising is the leading advertising agency in both Utah and Nevada. The firm was founded in 1974 by diplomat and presidential adviser Sig Rogich. In addition to Vassiliadis, Executive Vice President Robert A. Henrie is the firm's other major shareholder. Henrie directs R&R's Salt Lake City operations and is campaign chairman for U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch's (R-Utah) 1994 re-election campaign.
With a combined staff of 125, the annual revenues of R&R/PBN exceed $45 million. The two firms forged their strategic business alliance earlier this year.
