PRESIDENT AND CEO OF AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION ISSUES REACTION TO NAFTA VOTE

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Andrew H. Card Jr., president and CEO of the American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA), issued the following reaction to the vote on NAFTA:
The vote tonight is a vote of confidence in American industry and the American worker. It says that American industry is ready to compete head-to-head with any country in the world. NAFTA creates a new, powerful North American trading bloc which favors U.S. industry and U.S. jobs. Most importantly, it serves as a template for future trade pacts with our Asian trading partners.
For America's car companies, passage of NAFTA means tens of thousands of orders for new cars made in America by Americans in the first year alone. That means more secure jobs for U.S. autoworkers.
America's car companies are leading the nation out of its economic slump. NAFTA is a shot in the arm for the American auto industry -- and the nation.
