PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS INC. ANNOUNCES MEDIABASE RESEARCH JOINT VENTURE

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a summary of a presentation made by Sherman Oaks-based Premiere Radio Networks Inc. at the Cruttenden Santa Barbara Growth Stock Conference.
Premiere Radio Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: PRNI) today announced a joint venture to nationally syndicate the Mediabase Research Service to radio stations throughout the United States and Canada. The new venture, Mediabase Premiere Radio Networks, is owned 50 percent by each party, with profits and losses shared equally. It is anticipated that by the end of 1995, approximately $4 million in revenue will be shared by the partners in the joint venture. Under the terms of the agreement, Premiere has the option to purchase Mediabase's interest in the joint venture in 1995. Mediabase Research, based in Detroit, is a provider of music research for radio stations.
The Mediabase Research Service enables program directors to evaluate competing stations by tracking song breakouts, commercials, and contests during a 24-hour period. It is distributed twice weekly to stations on computer floppy disk. The initial market potential is 700 radio stations; 200 affiliates have already contracted for the service. The management of radio stations in the industry are receptive to the new service for which they will exchange advertising time. Prior to the service stations paid anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000 cash to receive competitive market research. Additional markets for the service include advertising agencies and record companies.
The Mediabase venture is the third investment made by Premiere this year. In March of 1993, the company purchased the assets and license of KZDG-FM in Denver. A successful turnaround of the station is underway. According to Arbitron, station ratings increased from .5 to a 3.3 share under the new management. In February, Premiere signed a contract with Gerry House to nationally syndicate his weekday Morning Drive program, beginning in June. The deal marks the company's entry into the $400 million wired network market.
Premiere Chief Executive Officer Steve Lehman commented that, "After five consistent years of increased earnings and profitability, management designated 1993 as an investment year. Collectively, the Mediabase Research Service, Gerry House syndicated program, and acquisition of KZDG-FM will drive the company's growth and profitability beginning in early 1994."
Premiere Radio Networks Inc. is a leading independent creator, producer and distributor of innovative comedy, entertainment and music related radio programs that reach 98 percent of U.S. households. The company, founded in 1987, has produced 14 syndicated programs and has over 1,500 independent radio affiliates under contract to distribute programming. These programs are distributed free of charge in exchange for commercial air time during broadcasts. In 1991, the company formed the Premiere Marketing Promotion division, which develops customized promotional campaigns designed to increase sales and distribution. The company is headquartered in Sherman Oaks.
