DANBURY, Conn., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Praxair, Inc. (NYSE; PX) will consolidate its Canadian, U.S. and Mexican businesses into three North American business groups: merchant, packaged gases, and on-site.
"This realignment of our businesses will promote faster decision-making and stronger customer focus," said Lichtenberger. "It also will allow us to implement best practices more readily around the world."
Under the new business group structure, the North American merchant gases business group will consist of Canadian, U.S. and Mexican merchant business units. Thomas H. Cable Jr., currently vice president-Europe, will become vice president-North American merchant gases group. Richard F. In recognition of the importance of packaged gases worldwide, a packaged gases Center of Excellence will be established in Canada to provide operational support in North America, and marketing, distribution and technology expertise worldwide.
The North American on-site gases group, consisting of on-site process gases and on-site standard plants, is headed by Cris E. Campos, vice president-on-site gases group. Campos is based at the Praxair Technology Center in Tonawanda, N.Y.
"Consolidating our businesses along North American lines allows us to better respond to a significant and growing number of customers who also are organizing along North American lines," said Lichtenberger.

White Martins, Praxair's affiliate in Brazil, will become responsible for Praxair's activities throughout South America.
All changes are effective July 1, 1993, although transitions to new responsibilities will take several weeks to complete.
