PRAXAIR LANDS HELIUM CONTRACT WITH IWATANI

 DANBURY, Conn., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) has been awarded a contract to supply helium over the next 10 years to Iwatani International Corp., based in Tokyo, Japan. Iwatani is a leading manufacturer and distributor of hydrogen, as well as an importer of helium and specialty gases into Japan.
 "This agreement represents additional progress in Praxair's goal to fully participate in the growth of the industrial gases industry in Asia," said Edgar G. Hotard, president of Praxair, who signed the agreement in Japan.
 "Our long-standing relationship with Praxair achieves a new level of partnership with this agreement," added Koji Saitoh, president of Iwatani International Corp.
 Praxair and Iwatani International Corp. formed a joint venture company, Iwatani Industrial Gases Corp., in 1985 to develop new industrial gases technologies, including innovative applications for the use of helium.
 Praxair is the largest helium supplier in the industrial gases industry, with a global distribution system that supplies industrial, scientific and medical markets. Praxair is the largest industrial gases supplier in North and South America, and one of the largest worldwide, with annual sales of $2.6 billion.
