PRAXAIR - NIJECT PARTNERSHIP SIGNED FOR DUPONT NYLON MANUFACTURING PLANT

DANBURY, Conn., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) and Niject Services Company have been awarded 15-year contracts to supply the DuPont Company's Seaford, Del., nylon manufacturing plant with nitrogen and compressed air -- two products essential to maximizing production at the DuPont facility.
The nitrogen, supplied on-site by a Praxair NitroGENTM cryogenic plant, will be used by DuPont for processing nylon chemicals. The compressed air, supplied by Niject, will be used by DuPont for carpet and textile fiber manufacturing, and by Praxair in the air separation process used to produce nitrogen.
"Though we look at compressed air and nitrogen as two separate products, the synergies offered by combining the two concepts of over- the-fence supply make this an unbeatable opportunity for DuPont," said Bruce Larson, DuPont purchasing agent. "Both companies, Praxair and Niject, are striving to bring this opportunity to fruition and their professionalism shows in all they do."
Niject is a joint venture of Praxair Energy Services Inc., a subsidiary of Praxair, a leading, worldwide industrial gases supplier; and Ingersoll-Rand Enhanced Oil Recovery Company, a subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand Corporation, a leading manufacturer of air compressors and developer of advanced air compression technology. Initially formed in 1980 to supply the oil industry with high pressure nitrogen for enhanced oil and gas recovery, Niject has expanded its applications to other industries.
In addition to being one of the world's largest industrial gases suppliers, Praxair is also a leading worldwide supplier of metallic and ceramic coatings and powders. The company was formerly Union Carbide Industrial Gases Inc., and known as Linde in North America.
DuPont is a technology-based global company with sales approaching $40 billion in 1992.
