PRATT & WHITNEY'S F119 CORE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES TESTS

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney's F119-PW-100 engine core successfully completed altitude testing last month at the U.S. Air Force's Arnold Engineering Development Center, Tullahoma, Tenn.
The test is the first of numerous engine tests planned in the F119 Engineering and Manufacturing Development Program at the company's Government Engines & Space Propulsion (GESP) unit, West Palm Beach, Fla. The F119 is the next generation power plant for the U.S. Air Force's F-22, Advanced Tactical Fighter, being developed by the team of Lockheed and Boeing.
"We are thoroughly pleased with the results of the test," said Walter N. Bylciw, vice president, F119 programs for GESP. "To satisfy the test objectives, the core was tested to the facility limits for pressures and temperatures for both steady-state and transient conditions," he noted.
The core accumulated 147.9 hours and completed the test plan objectives. The test evaluated aeromechanical, performance and stability characteristics. The core is now at GESP's facility undergoing inspection, while data from the test continues to be evaluated.
Pratt & Whitney's GESP unit, headquartered in West Palm Beach, Fla., designs, develops and supports military jet engines and space propulsion systems. Pratt & Whitney is a unit of United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, Conn.
