 PRATT & WHITNEY'S F100-PW-220 ENGINE TO POWER TAIWAN'S F-16s
 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney's (P&W) F100-PW-220 engine will power Taiwan's new F-16 fighters.
Acknowledgment of the sale came yesterday when President Bush announced to employees of the aircraft manufacturer, General Dynamics, that he has authorized the sale of up to 150 F-16s to Taiwan.
"We are extremely pleased that Taiwan will now become the 16th country to use our F100 engines," said John P. Balaguer, president of P&W's Government Engines & Space Propulsion unit. "We look forward to providing safe and reliable power for this country's new fighters," added Balaguer.
The order of an estimated 180 engines, including spares, has a potential value to Pratt & Whitney in excess of $500 million. While details of the sale are yet to be worked out between the United States and Taiwan, it is projected that engine delivery would occur from 1995 until the end of the decade.

Additional sales of F100 engines are pending. Saudi Arabia is expected to purchase a new fleet of F-15s powered by P&W engines and the Turkish air force is evaluating the latest model F100 engine for its new fleet of F-16s.
