AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2010 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) announced on Thursday that its products used on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet will simplify maintenance and reduce costs for airlines.

PPG has supplied flight deck windshields to the Dreamliner jet. The windshield keeps clear of fog and ice with gold and indium-tin oxide heating systems.

The view for passengers from the Dreamier jet will be through Alteos interactive window systems by PPG, commercial aviation's first electrochromic window shades, powered by an interactive system that passengers control.

Alteos interactive window systems use electrochromic technology by Gentex Corp.

Also, maintenance will be simplified, environmentally responsible and less costly with PPG's selectively strippable system of coatings. PPG Aerospace reportedly supplies the only complete coatings system qualified by Boeing for the 787.

In addition, the fuselage and fuel tank are sealed with lightweight, rapid-curing and environmentally responsible PRC brand sealants by PPG Aerospace. A new secondary fuel and vapour barrier was developed additionally to seal the exterior of the 787's wing box, PPG said.

PPG Aerospace is the aerospace products and services business of PPG Industries.

PPG is a supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass and fibre glass.
