POWERSOFT ANNOUNCES OBJECT-ORIENTED POWERBUILDER 2.0 FOR CLIENT/SERVER APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

 POWERSOFT ANNOUNCES OBJECT-ORIENTED POWERBUILDER 2.0
 FOR CLIENT/SERVER APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
BURLINGTON, Mass., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Powersoft Corporation today announced the release of a major enhancement to its PowerBuilder client/server development environment for building mainstream business applications. PowerBuilder 2.0 extends the functionality of Release 1.0, which began shipping last June, by providing powerful, new features that reduce the time it takes to build client/server applications without sacrificing ease of use.
A primary feature of PowerBuilder 2.0 is its "Object Easy(tm)" object-oriented, point-and-click architecture that permits developers to easily create and maintain object-oriented applications without knowledge or use of object-oriented languages.
Other major features of PowerBuilder 2.0 include an enriched set of "SQL Smart" Structured Query Language (SQL) database portability functions; new "MIS Friendly" capabilities to support large scale MIS projects; and a complete "Windows Rich" implementation of Microsoft Windows' objects, events and communications.
PowerBuilder, which operates in the Microsoft Windows 3.1/3.0 environment, is designed for corporate and government MIS software development projects. It incorporates the characteristics of mainframe development methods into a client/server architecture, in which graphic client applications integrate fully with high- performance, relational database servers in a transaction-processing environment.
PowerBuilder supports SQL, as well as the industry's leading relational database management systems (RDBMS): SQL Server from Microsoft Corp. and Sybase, Inc.; ORACLE Server from Oracle Corp.; ALLBASE/SQL from the Hewlett-Packard Co.; DB2 (using Micro Decisionware's Database Gateway) from IBM; XDB from XDB Corp.; and SQLBase from Gupta Technologies, Inc.
PowerBuilder operates on any network system supported by the installed RDBMS.
Chevron, 3M, EDS, Dun & Bradstreet Software, and Weyerhauser are among the more than 50 PowerBuilder 2.0 beta customers participating in Powersoft's "Headstart" program.
Available in June, PowerBuilder 2.0 will be sold and supported worldwide by the Powersoft field organization and through independent distributors, systems integrators and third-party software companies.
Pricing Strategy: PowerBuilder 2.0 is priced at $1,495 for the Standard Edition (Gupta SQLBase and XDB); $3,395 for the Premium Edition (Microsoft/Sybase SQL Server, ORACLE, and ALLBASE/SQL); and $3,895 for the DB2 Edition. Additional Database Interfaces and Server Connections are available separately. PowerBuilder 1.0 customers who subscribe to the company's Upgrade Subscription Program at $495 can purchase Release 2.0 for the cost of shipping and handling; the cost for PowerBuilder 1.0 customers who have not subscribed is $695.
