POWERADE TO BECOME OFFICIAL SPORTS DRINK OF FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS

Partnership to 'Kick-off' with Top-Ranked FSU Football Promotion
Offering Fans Trips to Kickoff Classic
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida State University and the Florida Coca-Cola Bottling Company announced today that PowerAde has become the exclusive sports drink of Seminole athletics.
A four-year agreement includes PowerAde availability and signage at all Seminole athletic events, sponsorships of FSU sports broadcasts -- including the television and radio programs for football coach Bobby Bowden and basketball coach Pat Kennedy -- and association with various FSU sports camps and clinics.
To kick-off the partnership, Coca-Cola is launching a major promotion offering three consumer trips to watch the Seminoles -- the unanimous pre-season No. 1 team -- play the Kansas Jayhawks in the Kickoff Classic in East Rutherford, N.J., Aug. 22.
The promotion, which begins Wednesday, Aug. 4, will be conducted in three markets: Tallahassee/Valdosta, Ga., Gainesville/Ocala and Jacksonville/St. Augustine. Consumers can enter by registering at PowerAde displays at more than 70 participating Winn-Dixie supermarkets. Through random drawings, one winner from each market will win tickets, airfare and hotel accommodations for two to attend the Kickoff Classic, the first collegiate football game of the season.
In the markets where the promotion will be conducted, PowerAde bottles will feature "neck-ringers" with the 1993 FSU football schedule. In addition, Seminole fans can order a commemorative FSU/PowerAde T- shirt at a discounted price with two product proofs of purchase.
Television and radio ads featuring coach Bowden will support the three-week promotion.
"We believe PowerAde provides our athletes with the highest quality, best tasting sports drink available," said Bob Goin, FSU athletic director. "We look forward to a long and successful partnership."
"We're pleased to be associated with one of the finest collegiate athletic departments in the country," said Jerry Graves, regional vice president and general manager, Florida Coca-Cola Bottling Company. "This partnership will provide PowerAde with tremendous exposure and further build credibility for PowerAde as a new entry into the sports drink arena."
PowerAde -- introduced in Florida this year -- is targeted at all types of athletes and individuals whose jobs require physical exertion. It is designed to replace body fluids lost during exercise. Along with its light, smooth taste, PowerAde delivers 33 percent more carbohydrates for energy than the current category leader and features less sodium.
PowerAde is available in lemon-lime, orange and fruit punch flavors.
