POWER AUTHORITY'S FLYNN ELECTED TO UTILITY INDUSTRY NUCLEAR BOARD
WASHINGTON, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Power Authority Chairman Richard M. Flynn Tuesday was elected a director of the Advanced Reactor Corp., a utility industry group promoting new designs for improved nuclear power plants.
Flynn said he was pleased with the appointment because the Power Authority has taken a leading role in encouraging the development of designs for second generation nuclear power plants.
"It seems appropriate that the Power Authority be represented in this group," said Flynn, "because it is supporting the first-of-a-kind engineering effort which the utility industry has launched in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy."
Five other utility executives were elected to the board Tuesday. They are: Richard A. Abdoo, the Wisconsin Electric Power Co.; Phillip Clark, GPU Nuclear Corp.; E. Linn Draper Jr., American Electric Power Co.; Joseph M. Farley, Southern Co.; and Sherwood H. Smith, Carolina Power & Light Co.
Flynn, who has been chairman of the Power Authority since 1985, is a member of the board of the American Public Power Association. He is chairman of the Large Public Power Council (LPPC)--a group of 18 of the country's largest public power organizations--and also chairs the LPPC's Transmission Access Task

Force.
