 POWELL INDUSTRIES ACQUIRES PRODUCT LINE FOR POWELL-ESCO SUBSIDIARY
 HOUSTON, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Powell Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: POWL) announced today it has acquired certain assets of the Hevi-Duty/Nelson switching product line. Hevi-Duty/Nelson is owned by General Signal Corp., Stamford, Conn. These assets consist of inventory, backlog, manufacturing equipment, trademarks, patents, design and manufacturing technology for Nelson's medium voltage switching product line manufactured in Tulsa, Okla.
 Thos. W. Powell, chairman of the board of Powell Industries stated:
 "These products have earned an excellent reputation in the marketplace, but are not part of the core business of Hevi-Duty/Nelson. However, this acquisition will complement the product line of our Powell-ESCO subsidiary in Greenville, Texas, and will further strengthen our position in the industrial and utility market sectors."
 Powell Industries, Inc. designs, manufactures and packages electrical generation, distribution and control equipment.
