 POTTS NAMED PRESIDENT OF APAC, INC. SUBSIDIARY;
 TO BE ELECTED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF ASHLAND OIL
 ASHLAND, Ky., Jan. 13, /PRNewswire/ -- Charles F. Potts has been named president of APAC, Inc., the highway construction subsidiary of Ashland Oil, Inc. (NYSE: ASH), according to John R. Hall, Ashland Oil chairman and chief executive officer. The appointment is effective February 1, 1992. Potts is also to be elected senior vice president of Ashland at the company's January 30, 1992, board meeting.
 Potts, 47, replaces G. William Jones, who is retiring at age 65 after more than 30 years of service with Ashland. Jones has been APAC president since 1986 and Ashland Oil senior vice president since 1987.
 In his new position, Potts is responsible for the operations and activities of the APAC group of construction companies in 15 states. He reports to Robert E. Yancey, Ashland Oil senior vice president and group operating officer.
 "Potts has a strong background in construction engineering and management and is well qualified to lead our APAC operations," Hall said.
 Potts joined APAC in 1985 after serving as director of construction for the Florida Department of Transportation. In 1988, he was promoted to regional vice president over APAC's operations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. He was then named senior vice president and chief operating officer of APAC in 1991.
 A native of North Carolina, Potts holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from The Citadel Military College and a master's in civil engineering from West Virginia University. He also is a graduate of Harvard University's Advanced Management Program.
 Ashland's APAC group of companies is a leading highway contractor in the United States. Based in Atlanta, APAC operates in 15 states and is a major supplier of hot-mix asphalt, ready-mix concrete, construction aggregates and other specialized construction materials.
 APAC's parent corporation, Ashland Oil, Inc. is a diversified energy corporation engaged in petroleum refining, transportation, and marketing; retail gasoline marketing; motor oil marketing; chemicals; coal; highway construction; and oil and gas exploration and production.
