POSTAL SERVICE COMMEMORATES 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF AIRMAIL

 HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- To commemorate 75 years of airmail, the Harrisburg District of the U.S. Postal Service will tie into the annual Sentimental Journey "fly-in," in Lock Haven, Pa., Aug. 12-15.
 The eighth annual Sentimental Journey Fly-In will be held at William T. Piper Memorial Airport, Lock Haven. This year's event will feature a unique blend of aviation and postal history. There will be a variety of aviation displays, stamp exhibits, and speakers. The American Airmail Society will conduct a special meeting, and several educational programs are being presented. Opening luncheon speakers include the Postal Service Harrisburg District Manager Suzanne Medvidovich, and American Airmail Society life member Patrick A. Walters. Saturday evening, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, NASA astronaut, will be the featured speaker.
 Commemorative air mail runs utilizing historic aircraft will operate into Lockhaven Aug. 12-14. The Postal Service will be accepting mail in the zip code areas 169, 177, and 168 for air mail flights. Pilots include Steve Pitcairn, in a PA-7 Pitcairn Mailwing plane; Grant Gehman, in a 1946 Aeronca Champ; Robert and Harold Armstrong, in a 1927 Waco; Wayne Haubert in a 1942 Stenson Gulf Wing; and Gene Briner, flying a 1929 Fleet Model II open cockpit plane.
 Leading off the airmail flights on Thursday, Aug. 12, will be pilot Mike Strieter, flying in from College Park, Md., in a 1937 Stenson, scheduled to arrive in Lock Haven at 1 p.m. Subsequent flights will take off from the other towns (Bellefonte, Williamsport, and Wellsboro, Pa.) all three days.
 At the same time, Bellefonte Airport, in near-by Bellefonte, will join the celebration with a special postal fair Aug. 12-15. Guest speakers at Bellefonte include NASA Astronaut Hank Hartsfield and Sally Robinson, the Postal Service's manager of customer service support for the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, and New Jersey. Philatelic booths will also be located at the airports in Williamsport, Wellsboro, and at the Tioga County Fair.
 Special pictorial cancellations will be available from postal substations at the airports in Lock Haven, College Park, Williamsport, Wellsboro, Bellefonte and the Tioga County Fair. Customers may have cancellations applied to mail pieces bearing first class postage rates. Local stamp clubs will be providing cachet covers, and airport substations will be open noon to 4 p.m. daily, Thursday through Saturday, with additional activities at Cub Haven Station and the Tioga County Fair information booth, open 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
 A philatelic passport booklet is being prepared to commemorate the event at a cost of $2.50 unserviced, $7.5O serviced, and a souvenir card for $1.50 serviced has been made available for sale at each substation, or mail order through Postmaster, Lock Haven, Pa. 17745-9998.
