POSTAGE METER MANUFACTURER SUPPORTS POSTAL SERVICE CRACKDOWN

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Postal Service announced today plans for a nationwide crackdown on postage meter fraud, including rewards up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone defrauding the Postal Service.
Representatives from all four U.S. postage meter manufacturers appeared with Postmaster General Marvin Runyon to show their support. "We realize that our primary reasons for existence are to help customers simplify the preparation of the mail and to help the Postal Service accurately collect revenue," said George Gelfer, general manager of Francotyp-Postalia. His company has been serving the needs of U.S. mailers for over 30 years and has never had any meters involved in fraud investigations.
Today's announcement should lead to an increased awareness of postage meter fraud, saving American mailers money. "The thieves and cheats who run up millions of dollars in postage are reaching into the pockets of every man and woman in America every time they defraud us," said Postmaster General Marvin Runyon.
Anyone with information on meter fraud should call the Postal Service's toll-free number, 800-654-8896. For additional information on how to secure your business's postage meter you can call Francotyp- Postalia at 800-341-6052.
