PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 2s FINISH 1-2-3 IN 24 HOURS OF DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America today issued the following:
A trio of Porsche 911 Carrera 2s swept the top three finishing positions in the Invitational GT Class at the 1993 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona IMSA Camel GT race today.
The result marked the 20th anniversary of the first Porsche 911 victory in the event by Hurley Haywood and the late Peter Gregg in 1973. Since that inaugural win, the Porsche 911 has gone on to become the most successful model in IMSA GT racing with a total of 117 victories.
The latest Porsche 911 win at Daytona came in the new International GT Class for production-based sports cars. The winning entry, co-driven by Ronny Meixner of Germany; Luigino Pagotto of Italy; and Enzo Calderari and Sandro Angelastri of Switzerland, is a production of Porsche 911 Carrera 2 slightly modified for racing. It placed 11th overall in the contest, regarded as North America's premier sports car race, pitted against more powerful purpose-built race cars.
Porsche 911 Carrera 2s finishing second and third in the Class at the 1993 Daytona 24 Hours were driven by Wolfgang Mathai/Oliver Mathai/Edgar Doren and Stig Amthor/Andreas Fuchs/Oliver Kuttner/Alfio Marchini/Philipe de Craene, respectively.
