POMEROY COMPUTER RESOURCES INCREASES BUSINESS ORIENTATION
CINCINNATI, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Pomeroy Computer Resources (NASDAQ: PMRY) today announced the completion of a planned consolidation of its three Cincinnati-area ComputerLand stores. Current store operations in Tri-County and Florence, Ky., will be shifted to the company's expanded downtown Cincinnati business center.
James Cordas, vice president of sales and marketing, explained, "Our 1992 business plan focuses on providing our customers a complete menu of professional computer services, from planning, to pulling cable, to outsourcing, to leases and buyback programs ... not just selling and delivering hardware. The current Tri-County and Florence, Ky., locations were more suited to walk-in retail sales. Our downtown Cincinnati business center is specifically designed and ideally located for our business clientele.
"Our targeted strategy and the changes in the marketplace enable us to execute this advantageous consolidation of operations. We expect sales and service levels to improve while operating expenses will be decreased. Thus, we anticipate a positive impact on the bottom line."
Concluded CEO David B. Pomeroy, "This strategic move coincides with the opening of ComputerLand's new 250,000-square-foot Indianapolis warehouse and distribution center. This facility will enable us to carry less inventory, while providing our business customers with better service through dramatically reduced delivery time.
"Our planned expansion into the business market is a two-pronged approach -- it includes sales growth in current markets as well as external growth through acquisitions. As an example, the planned acquisition of ComputerLand of Knoxville (Tenn.) and ComputerLand of Jacksonville (Fla.) from C&N Corporation would add gross sales of approximately $12 million over a 12-month period."
Pomeroy Computer Resources is one of the nation's top ComputerLand franchisees and also assembles and markets IBM-compatible computers under the trade name "Syclone."
