POLYGRAM RELEASES ITS FIRST U.S. PUBLISHING SONGBOOK
NEW YORK, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyGram Music Publishing Group has announced the availability of its first songbook with detailed information on the rights to songs published in the U.S. The guide is designed to be user friendly to those in the music, film, and television communities.
The songbook, which includes a nine CD sampler, lists important titles acquired by PolyGram from 1900 up to April, 1992 ranging from older classics, like Frank Sinatra's "That's Life," (Reprise/Warner Brothers) to current titles, such as "Save the Best for Last," by Vanessa Williams (Wing/PolyGram). Alphabetical listings by both song and title are devised to help the user locate information on songwriter, chart position and important covers by other artists. The book is divided into various categories including U.S., U.K. and R&B chart hits with a separate category for country music. Other sections include musical styles such as British Beat, alternative and reggae music as well as songs listed by subject matter, i.e. cars, motorcycles, and money. Unlike other guides, it also includes substantial biographical information on artists and photography.
The book, 416 pages in length, will on occasion be updated to include new signings and catalog purchases. For example, next year's update will include acts like U2, INXS, and The Beastie Boys. The book will also include information on present day ownership of masters enabling the user to go directly to the source. The PolyGram songbook represents some of the most important song catalog in the world; its comprehensive packaging makes it an invaluable resource in the field of entertainment.
