POLARIS ANNOUNCES PROFIT SHARING AND CASH DISTRIBUTIONS TOTALING
 MORE THAN $6,000,000
MINNEAPOLIS, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Polaris Industries L.P. (AMEX: SNO) today announced profit sharing totalling $5,475,000 in recognition of the company's record-setting performance in 1991 which included record sales and earnings.
Employees in the Minneapolis suburb of Plymouth and at the company's manufacturing facility in Roseau, Minn. and its Canadian subsidiary in Winnipeg will receive checks.
In addition, under the Polaris Employee Ownership Plan, the employees were awarded some 42,000 ownership rights, and a $5 cash distribution for each ownership right held through 1991, a total of $687,000.
For the year just ended, 1,094 employees participated in the profit sharing and cash distribution plans with an average combined payment of over $5,600 per employee.
In a letter to Polaris employees, Hall Wendel, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Although profits for 1991 were approximately equal to last year, profit sharing is down from 1990 due to investing a substantial amount of money in product development: tooling for water products, snowmobiles and ATVs; and our purchase of the Osceola facility which will give us much better control over costs, quality and delivery time. Even though these investments impact our profit sharing now, they are absolutely essential to our future growth and prosperity."
Wendel congratulated employees on a job well done and pointed out that the company's desire to manage growth of the employee base has a direct, positive impact on the size of the profit sharing pool; the more employees the fewer profit sharing dollars per person.
Wendel pointed out that the uncertainty of the economic environment will make 1992 a challenging year and urged employees to maximize their productivity in order to help manage costs.
Polaris is the largest snowmobile manufacturer in the world, the largest U.S. manufacturer of all-terrain vehicles and has recently entered the personal watercraft market.
