PML-Q describes Abbottabad commission 'unnecessary'.

Islamabad, June 26 (ANI): Changing its stance on the Abbottabad commission set up to probe Osama Bin Laden's death, the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) has described the panel as 'unnecessary' and asked the Pakistan government "not to rush taking decisions under pressure".

"Most appropriate forum should be an internal inter-services inquiry under the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee which can then report its findings to the parliament and the cabinet" the Dawn quoted the PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, as saying.

The statement comes at a time when the commission headed by sitting Supreme Court Judge Javed Iqbal, is set to begin its proceedings next week.

Shujaat said it was wrong to involve judiciary in all issues, "including such technical areas like intelligence or related security issues".

He said: "Accountability should not become a witch-hunt or an organised campaign to malign or defame a respected and popular national institution like the Pakistan Army".

The PML-Q is not the first party to renege on its support to the Abbottabad commission; earlier the opposition Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) declared it was against 'national interest'.

The opposition Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) has also rejected the Abbottabad commission.

Assailing the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for criticizing army and intelligence agencies, Chaudhry Shujaat alleged that Sharif was "trying to take advantage of the cropped up situation and differences between Pakistan Army and the US military leadership". (ANI)
