 PLY GEM ENTERS ELITE FORTUNE 500;
 FIRST TIME TO APPEAR AS A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY
 NEW YORK, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ply Gem Industries, Inc. (AMEX: PGI) announced today that it has been named to the Fortune 500 roster of the largest industrial corporations in the United States. Ply Gem, a national manufacturer and distributor of specialty products for the home improvement industry, penetrated the prestigious Fortune 500 for the first time, entering the list at a ranking of 485 with 1991 sales of $561.5 million.
 Ply-Gem's performance for investors in 1991 placed the company in the top echelon of the Fortune 500. The company's total return to investors of 65.7 percent earned it an impressive 86 ranking out of the 500 and the fifth highest ranking in its industry group, Fortune reported. Ply Gem's 10 year earnings per share growth rate placed it 202 among the 500 companies profiled, according to Fortune.
 The company also reported a 27 percent increase in profits over the prior year, which earned it a ranking of 365 among the Fortune 500 and the number two spot in its industry grouping.
 Ply Gem's entry into the Fortune 500 coincides with the 10 year anniversary of Chairman Jeffrey S. Silverman's tenure at Ply Gem. Since he joined the company, Ply Gem's sales soared from $56 million to over $562 million in 1991, positioning Ply Gem to emerge as a key supplier to the home improvement industry.
 "Although 1991 was a year of economic challenge for businesses and individuals alike, our dedicated work force and the success of our TEAMWORK 90s programs enabled Ply Gem to report two consecutive quarters of record revenues and solid profits, allowing us to join the ranks of the very prestigious Fortune 500. On behalf of Ply Gem Industries, I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our customers, suppliers, employees and stockholders who have helped us achieve our success," said Jeffrey S. Silverman.
