PLUS ATM NETWORK CONTINUES EXPANSION IN EUROPE

PLUS ATM NETWORK CONTINUES EXPANSION IN EUROPE
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- National Westminster Bank (NatWest), one of the leading high street banks in the United Kingdom, is the second major Visa member financial institution in Europe to have linked its more than 1,900 automated teller machines (ATMs) to the international Plus ATM network. American and Canadian travelers who carry ATM cards bearing the Plus mark now have access to instant cash at more than 5,500 teller machines throughout the United Kingdom.
NatWest, with assets of $207 billion and a network of approximately 2,900 branches, has ATMs located in all of Britain's major cities and business and tourist centers, including Heathrow (terminal 3 and 4) and Gatwick airports.
"In the upcoming months, we expect further dynamic growth of the Plus network in Europe," said Jean-Jacques Desbons, executive vice president, Visa International. "Many Visa member institutions in countries such as France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Switzerland are planning to link their teller machines to Plus so that by the end of 1992, the total number of Plus ATMs in Europe will most certainly exceed 25,000."
Currently, there are 63,000 ATMs in 16 countries connected to the international Plus network (of which 45,400 are located in the United States and 10,100 in Canada).
Visa International owns and markets the Plus mark outside the United States. Visa International, with more than 9 million acceptance locations and 269 million payment cards issued, is the world's largest consumer payment system.
