PLEXUS AND HEWLETT-PACKARD ANNOUNCE JOINT MARKETING ALLIANCE; DOCUMENT IMAGING AND WORK PROCESS AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS NOW AVAILABLE FROM PLEXUS
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) (NYSE: HWP) and the Plexus Software Division of Recognition Equipment Incorporated (Plexus) (NYSE: REC) today announced that effective Nov. 1, 1992, HP, formerly an OEM of the Plexus XDP(R) product, will become a Plexus Joint Marketing Partner. The HP AIMS product is based on the Plexus XDP document imaging software and has previously been sold directly and exclusively by HP. With this agreement, Plexus and HP plan to incorporate HP AIMS into the standard Plexus XDP product offering. Customers and resellers can purchase their document imaging and work process automation products on the HP platform from Plexus as standard Plexus products.
The original agreement between the two companies allowed HP to quickly enter the imaging market and install more than 100 systems during the last 2 years. Over this period, Plexus has emerged as a leading provider of open, client-server imaging and work process automation software, and end-users customers have increasingly requested the Plexus products by name. While the strong alliance between Plexus and HP has been a major factor in the growth and acceptance of Plexus as an emerging standard for document imaging, this new relationship allows both companies to better address the growing markets for imaging and work process automation.
"There is a clear trend among Fortune 500 customers to standardize on open imaging software solutions," according to Michael E. Leavell, an HP vice president and general manager of the Integrated Systems Group. "This evolution of our relationship will provide customers with greater flexibility in their selection of standard enterprise-wide imaging solutions."
"As users deploy software solutions across their organizations and begin to examine their business processes, the need for a true open standard for document imaging and work process automation across multiple hardware platforms becomes critical. This evolution of the HP/Plexus alliance allows both companies to better address this requirement," said Tom Frederick, president of Plexus. "This also helps to further validate Plexus' leadership position in the imaging and work process automation markets and brings the installed base for XDP and HP AIMS to approximately 500 systems across 12 platforms."
This new alliance is aimed at leveraging HP's unique added value to the XDP offering, including support for HP's erasable optical products, and the porting of Plexus' new suite of products including FloWare(TM), the Case Management Application |CMA(TM)~, and XDC(TM) to the HP platform.
FloWare, formerly called ImageFlow, is an interactive workflow management software product which allows users to graphically define the flow of information through the various business processes in their organization. CMA is an image-based software application for case, or file-folder management which is built from the standard Plexus FloWare and XDP software products. XDC is an image-based application for forms processing and data capture.
This new relationship will also provide existing HP AIMS end-users, developers and resellers alternative support options with Plexus. HP will continue to support existing HP AIMS customers under HP's standard support arrangements.
Plexus Software, a Division of Recognition Equipment Incorporated, is a leading provider of work process automation and compound data management products and services to customers throughout the world.
Hewlett-Packard Company is an international manufacturer of measurement and computation products and systems recognized for excellence in quality and support. The company's products and services are used in industry, business, engineering, science, medicine and education in approximately 100 countries. HP has 90,900 employees and had revenue of $14.5 billion in its 1991 fiscal year.
