PLCB: First Pittsburgh Wine Festival Attracts World's Leading Winemakers to Pennsylvania; Ceremony to Kick Off Festival to be Held at Waterworks Wine & Spirits Store.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- HARRISBURG, Pa., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) Chairman Jonathan H. Newman will host several of the world's leading winemakers and local dignitaries at the Waterworks Wine & Spirits Premium Collection superstore, 974 Freeport Road, Pittsburgh, on Friday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. to kick off the inaugural celebration of the Pittsburgh Wine Festival, which the PLCB is sponsoring that evening with the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

"We are thrilled to bring one of the premier wine festivals in the world to Pittsburgh," said Newman. "Pittsburgh is a magnificent destination city with many fine restaurants. This event will give wine lovers a taste of the great wines of the world and the opportunity to meet and talk with the winemakers who make it all possible."

Included in the list of over 30 winemakers who will toast the grand re-opening of the newly expanded Waterworks store with a complimentary sparkling wine tasting are Michael Mondavi of Robert Mondavi Winery, Dan Duckhorn of Duckhorn Vineyards and Warren Winiarski of Stag's Leap Winery. The sparkling wines that will be poured at the public tasting event at the Waterworks will include Sonoma's Iron Horse Vineyards Wedding Cuvee '99, Napa's Schramsberg Winery Blanc de Blanc '98, Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut and Pennsylvania's French Creek Ridge Vineyards Blanc de Blanc.

The newly renovated store carries over 5,000 wine and spirits products, half of which are premium wines and specialty items. The store is attractively decorated with fountains flanking either side of the new temperature- controlled wine room where the PLCB stores its collection of 1,400 rare and hard to find vintages. The Waterworks Premium Collection store also has a number of gift baskets containing premium wine and wine accessories such as corkscrews and wine sleeves.

Under Newman, the PLCB has created a website at featuring over 650 fine wines, 120 premium spirits, wine accessories and content from The Wine Enthusiast magazine. Newman is also responsible for establishing a wine festival in Philadelphia. He is committed to insuring the integrity of fine wine by maintaining proper temperature control in the transportation and storage of products, and he is enhancing customer service through improved employee training and product knowledge.

The PLCB will have an on-site premium wine store at the Pittsburgh Wine Festival to enable consumers to purchase the fine wines they taste that night.
